Science is vital to Happiness

Roger asks:
"Why do we feel the need to ask why?"

We ask "why" because we do not instinctually know what we should do or how we should act.

Authorized Doctrine 11:
If we were never troubled, by how phenomena in the sky or death might concern us, or by our failures to grasp the limits of pains and desires, we would have no need to study nature.

While the world is a complex place for all animals, we as homo sapiens sapiens live in a more complex world than other animals. For instance, we are not limited to a single environment. We are able to live in all of them... with the help of technology.

Which leads us to the second main reason... Our big brains give us the ability to engage in a vast multitude of possible actions, in nature, in society, and with technology. We need to know the world and ourselves to be able to make good choices.

Authorized Doctrine 12:
One cannot rid himself of his primal fears if he does not understand the nature of the universe but instead suspects the truth of some mythical story. So without the study of nature, there can be no enjoyment of pure pleasure.

Roger kysyy:
"Miksi tunnemme tarvetta kysyä miksi?"

Kysymme "miksi" koska emme vaistonvaraisesti mitä meidän pitäisi tehdä tai miten toimia.

Jos meitä ei koskaan vaivaisi, kuinka taivaan ilmiöt tai kuolema vaikuttavat meihin, tai epäonnistumisemme tuskan ja halujen ymmärtämisessä, meidän ei tarvitsisi tutkia luontoa.

Vaikka maailma on monimutkainen paikka kaikille eläimille, me homo sapiens sapiens elämme muita eläimiä monimutkaisemmassa. Esimerkiksi emme ole yhden ympäristön armoilla. Me voimme elää niissä kaikissa... teknologian avulla.

Tämä johtaa toiseen pääsyyhyn... Suuret aivomme antavat meille kyvyn laajaan mahdollisten toimien joukkoon, luonnossa, yhteiskunnassa, ja teknologian avulla. Meidän pitää tuntea maailmaa ja itseämme voidaksemme tehdä hyviä valintoja.

Virallinen Oppi 12:
Emme voi vapautua alkukantaisista peloista jos emme ymmärrä maailmankaikkeuden luonnetta, vaan oletamme todeksi jonkin myytin. Niinpä ilman luonnon tutkimusta, emme voi kokea puhdasta nautintoa.
